Rough Seas Make for Difficult Rescue
Saturday, September 10, 2016

~~On Sept. 10 at 15:48 Bowers, Leipsic and Little Creek Fire Companies were alerted for a vessel that had engine trouble in the mouth of the Mahon River. While responding to the Little Creek Fire Dock, 54-10 observed an approximately 40 foot Yacht on the sea wall along the road. The vessel was in danger of being beached on the rocks or impaled by submerged pilings. 54 Marine 1 attempted several passes to get a line to the vessel, however the heavy on shore sea and wind was pushing the vessel closer to the rocks. 54 Marine 3 was finally able to get inside the wall and get a line to extract the vessel from danger. Once in open water, 54 Marine 3 towed the vessel back to the Little Creek Fire Dock at Port Mahon. Units on scene 54-10, 54-0, 54 Marine 1, 54 Marine 3, Fireboat 40, 53 Marine 1, A40, and B53.
